Our Story

 

ERIK CARLSON IS A 1993 GRADUATE OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MAINE, ORONO WITH A B.S. IN FORESTRY AND A CONCENTRATION IN TIMBER UTILIZATION.  UPON GRADUATION, ERIK WORKED FOR A VARIETY OF FOREST LANDOWNERS AND FORESTRY COMPANIES IN MAINE. DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS, ERIK WORKED FOR THE US FOREST SERVICE AS A WILDLAND FIRE-FIGHTER.  THE MAJORITY OF THAT TIME WAS SPENT WITH THE BITTERROOT HOTSHOT CREW, BASED OUT OF DARBY, MT.


C AND L FORESTRY INC. WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1997 AS A LOW IMPACT LOGGING COMPANY BY HIS THEN PARTNER DOUGLAS LEVITT, WHOM IS A USMC VETERAN OF THE KOREAN WAR AND THE "TOUGHEST MAN ON THE PLANET". TOGETHER THEY DEVELOPED A LARGE LANDOWNER NETWORK, THROUGH CAREFUL AND QUALITY LOGGING PRACTICES.  C AND L FORESTRY WAS A MEMBER OF THE VERY FIRST COHORT OF THE THEN PILOT NORTH EAST MASTER LOGGER CERTIFICATION PROGRAM.


ERIK IS A MAINE LICENSED FORESTER, A LICENSED ARBORIST, AND A CERTIFIED LOGGING PROFESSIONAL (CLP). HE IS ALSO CURRENTLY THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS FOR THE CLP PROGRAM, A CERTIFIED TREE FARM INSPECTOR, AND A STEWARDSHIP FORESTER WITH THE MAINE FOREST SERVICE.
